Product details

The Hayward SPX1419D1 is the lock ring for an eyeball return fitting. It threads into the wall fitting and traps the eyeball and its seat, which is what keeps the return aimed where you set it.

Why it fails

The ring is the part that takes the strain every time somebody twists the eyeball to change the flow direction, and it sits in sunlight and pool water for years. Most of the ones that come out are cracked from over tightening or have simply gone brittle. Once the ring splits, the eyeball works loose and the return sprays wherever it likes.

Ordering

This listing is the ring alone, sized 2.25 in by 0.5 in. Eyeball fittings and seats are ordered separately, so check whether those parts are still sound before you take the wall fitting apart. Thread the new ring in hand tight and leave it there.

What is this lock ring for?
It is the collar that holds an eyeball return fitting in the wall fitting. Hayward lists it as the lock ring for the eyeball fitting, sized 2.25 in by 0.5 in.
Does the eyeball come with it?
No. This is the lock ring only. Eyeball return fittings and the seat are separate items.
Why did mine break?
Lock rings usually fail from being over tightened or from years of sun and pool chemistry making the plastic brittle. Fit the new one hand tight only.
How do I get the old one out?
It unthreads from the wall fitting. If a broken ring is jammed against the seat, a seat removal tool makes the job easier without damaging the fitting.
