What does a pilot generator do?
It sits in the pilot flame and generates the small electrical current that holds the gas valve open. No current, no main burner.
My pilot lights but the heater will not fire. Is this the part?
It is one of the first things to check. A pilot generator that has aged out will keep a pilot alight while producing too little current to hold the valve, so the burner never comes on or drops out shortly after lighting.
