The Teledyne Laars R0023000 is a high-limit switch rated at 150 degrees F, used across a wide range of Jandy Laars pool heaters.

What it does

The high limit is a safety cutout. It watches water temperature and shuts the heater down if that temperature climbs past its setpoint, which protects the heat exchanger and everything downstream of it. Because it is a safety device, it is not a part to bypass or defeat when it starts acting up.

This switch is listed for the Jandy Laars Lite and Lite2, Series 2, LX and LT, the Lite2 model LJ, the LXi, and the Laars XL-2 and oil fired XL-3. Laars uses limit switches at more than one temperature rating, so confirm that 150 F is the rating your heater specifies.

Before you replace it

A limit that trips repeatedly is frequently reporting a real problem rather than failing. Low flow from a dirty filter, a closed valve or a tired pump, and scale in the heat exchanger, all show up as nuisance limit trips. Rule those out first, then replace the switch if it is genuinely faulty.
