What the pressure switch does
A gas heater will not light until it knows water is moving through it. The pressure switch is the device that makes that call. When it closes, the control board is free to run the ignition sequence. When it fails or sticks open, the heater simply refuses to fire, even though the pump is running and the flow looks normal at the returns.
Before you swap it
A no fire fault can also come from a dirty filter, a closed valve or a starved suction line, so check flow first. If the water side is right and the heater still will not light, the switch is the next thing to look at. The siphon loop is included here because it is part of the same assembly.
