The Jandy R0589405 is the heat exchanger tube replacement for the Model 400 JXi gas pool and spa heater. The same part is also cataloged under the Zodiac name.

What the heat exchanger does

The exchanger is the part that actually heats the water. Pool water is pumped through it while the burner fires beneath, and the heat crosses the tube wall into the water. Every other component in the heater is there to control that process.

When it needs replacing

Heat exchangers fail by corroding through, usually after long running with unbalanced water or with poor flow. Once a tube leaks, water gets into the burner area and the heater cannot run safely. It is not a repair that can be patched in place.

Before you order

This tube is specific to the Model 400 JXi. Check the model and size on the heater rating plate first. Replacing an exchanger means opening up the heater, so it is normally work for a qualified heater technician.
