What it does
A heater will not fire until it knows water is moving through it. The pressure switch is what supplies that proof: at 1.75 psi it closes and lets the ignition sequence continue. If it does not close, the heater sits idle no matter what the thermostat asks for.
Fitting
This version mounts straight onto the header, so there is no remote bracket or sensing tube to route.
Diagnosis first
Before condemning the switch, confirm the filter is clean, the valves are open and the pump is priming and holding prime. Low flow from any of those causes produces the same symptom as a failed switch.
