Raypak Genuine OEM Bypass Kit with Valve, Dam, Shaft and Spring, 006715F

The Raypak 006715F is the Capron header bypass kit for the heat exchanger, supplied as a complete set: the bypass valve, the bypass dam and shaft, and the bypass spring. Raypak notes that all sizes are included in the kit.

What the bypass is for

A gas pool heater has to keep the water leaving its heat exchanger warm enough that flue gas does not condense on the tubes. The bypass is how that happens. It routes a share of the flow around the exchanger rather than through it, holding the exchanger temperature up regardless of how cold the pool is or how fast the pump is pushing. When the valve, the dam or the spring gives out, that balance is lost, and the heater starts dripping condensate and soots its tubes.

Raypak lists this kit for the R185A, R265A, R335A and R405A digital pool heaters. It is also carried under the Versa A and B models from 185 through 405 and in the 206A, 266A, 336A and 406A digital atmospheric parts group, so check your model plate against those families.
