Raypak 005264F is the genuine rear drain plug and cover for Raypak pool heaters. It fits the 206A through 406A atmospheric models and the 207A through 407A Low NOx models.
What it does
The rear drain is the low point that lets water out of the heater. It matters most at closing time, when the heater has to be emptied so nothing is left inside to freeze and split. The plug seals that opening during the season and the cover protects it.
When to replace
Change it if the plug weeps, if it no longer seals after being taken out for winterizing, or if the threads are chewed up. Plugs are handled once or twice a year and they do wear. Given what standing water can do to a heat exchanger over a cold winter, a fresh plug is inexpensive protection.
