Raypak Genuine OEM Refractory, 206A, Both Front and Rear Pieces, 010089F

The Raypak 010089F is the refractory tile set for the 206A pool heater. It is the genuine Raypak part and it covers both pieces, front and rear.

Dimensions

Each tile stands 17-7/8 inches tall and is 1 inch thick. The top 2 inches measure 13-1/2 inches across, then the sides come in 1/2 inch each, leaving 12-1/2 inches for the remainder of the tile. That step is what gives the tile its T shape and what locates it correctly in the heater.

What refractory does

Refractory lines the combustion area and does two jobs at once. It keeps the flame from playing directly on the heater structure, and it reflects heat back toward the exchanger instead of letting it soak into the cabinet. A heater running with broken or missing refractory is losing efficiency and cooking metal that was not designed for it.

When to change it

Refractory is brittle by nature. Cracks, crumbled edges and chunks sitting in the bottom of the heater all mean it is time. It is common to break a tile during other service work, which is why this part often gets ordered alongside a burner or exchanger job.
