The Raypak B-R336A-EN-C #50, part number 017373, is the 336A size of Raypak's Digital ASME pool and spa heater: 332,500 BTU/hr input on natural gas, 2 inch bronze headers, a copper fin tube heat exchanger and an orifice set for installations from 0 to 2,000 ft.

The ASME build

The B at the front of the model number is Raypak's code for bronze ASME headers, which give the heater the strength commercial code requirements call for. It ships with a 125 psi pressure relief valve, carries the ANSI Z21.56 design certification, and can be installed indoors or out, directly on a combustible surface. Whether a pool needs an ASME heater is for the local code and the inspector to say.

Heat exchanger and protection

The tubes are copper fin tube, the C at the end of the model number; Raypak builds the same heater with cupronickel tubes under numbers ending in X. Raypak uses a straight tube design with no bends or helical coils, and fits the ProTek Shield module at the inlet, which it engineers to take the brunt of the corrosion that occurs over time.

Controls

The digital LCD sets the temperature and the heater's settings, and the microprocessor shows a diagnostic readout while it monitors operating status. The control ties into an existing remote system, and the self adjusting burner compensates for gas pressure changes. Power is 120 or 240 VAC, single phase.

Raypak sells the 336A ASME heater under separate part numbers by fuel, exchanger and elevation band. This one is natural gas, copper, 0 to 2,000 ft. At Raypak's rated 82 percent thermal efficiency it puts about 272,650 BTU/hr into the water.
