Product details
The Coates 22002001 is the temperature control thermostat for Coates electric pool and spa heaters. It is the part that reads water temperature and tells the heater when to run.
Which heaters it covers
It is used on every SHB model, and on the CE, CPH, PHS and 6ILS models. SHA and ST heaters take it from serial number 16140 upward, so pull the serial off the data plate before ordering if you have one of those two.
Build
The thermostat is a single pole, single throw switch with two electrical hook ups, one of which carries two spade connectors rather than one. Sensing is done by a 5/16 in bulb on a 12 in rubber coated capillary, which is long enough to route from the control area to the sensing well.
When to replace it
A thermostat that has drifted or failed shows up as water that never reaches setpoint, a heater that will not fire at all, or one that keeps heating past the number on the dial. Once the high limit and the wiring check out, the thermostat is the next thing to change.
