The Hayward HPX2169 is the water temperature sensor for HeatPro pool heat pumps. It is the genuine Hayward part, listed for HeatPro models HP6003T, HP11003T, HP21003 and HP2100TC03T.
What it controls
The heat pump has no idea how warm the pool is except through this sensor. The setpoint, the run cycle and the shutoff all come off its reading, so when the sensor drifts out of calibration or goes open circuit, the unit behaves as though the pool is a temperature it is not. That shows up as a display that disagrees with a thermometer, a unit that starts and stops too often, or a sensor fault on the control.
Before you replace the board
Sensors are a far more common failure than control boards, and they are a fraction of the cost. When a HeatPro is misreading or faulting on temperature, this is the part to change first. It is a serviceable component, so the refrigerant circuit is not disturbed to fit it.
