What it does
A V-clamp is the band that pulls two flanged halves together and holds them there. On an in-floor cleaner valve, that clamp is carrying the pressure of the whole system, so a band that has corroded, stretched or been overtightened is a leak waiting to happen. Stainless steel is the reason the original lasts as long as it does, and it is the reason to replace like for like.
When to replace it
If you have the valve apart for a rebuild, look at the band and the nut before it goes back together. Rust streaks, a nut that will not draw down evenly, or a band that no longer sits flat are all reasons to fit a new one while the assembly is open.
