The Waterway 400-1410E is a 1 inch eyeball fitting in white. It is the swiveling insert that sits in a return and lets you point the water coming back into the pool.
Why aim matters
A return that fires straight out moves a narrow band of water and leaves the rest of the pool comparatively still. Turning the eyeball so the flow runs away from the skimmer, angled slightly downward, sets up a circulation pattern that carries the whole volume around toward the skimmer. That is what makes chemicals distribute evenly and stops dead corners from collecting debris.
When to replace one
Eyeballs live in sunlight and chlorinated water, and they eventually go brittle. Once the ball cracks, will not hold its position, or has broken out of its retainer, the fitting stops doing the one job it has. This is the genuine Waterway replacement, part 400-1410E.
