What it is

A small terminal block that plugs onto a header inside the control panel. Field wiring lands under four screws on the block. Because the block unplugs, wiring can be made up off the board and pushed back into place, which is a good deal easier than working screws down inside an enclosure.

Why it fails

Automation panels sit outdoors for years. Moisture gets into the enclosure, terminals corrode, and a connection that is not tight will arc and burn the plastic around it. The usual symptom is an output or an accessory that has quietly stopped working while everything else in the panel is fine.
