What it fixes
Total alkalinity is what keeps pH from wandering. When alkalinity drops, pH moves on every rainstorm, every chemical addition and every busy weekend, and chasing that pH with acid or soda ash becomes a weekly job. Bring alkalinity back into range and the pH tends to sit still on its own.
Why it protects the pool
Water that has gone acidic attacks plaster, grout, metal fittings and heater internals. Water that has gone the other way lays down scale on surfaces and inside the heater. Alkalinity in range is what keeps the water between those two failure modes.
Targets
