Proteam pH Down is a granular pH and total alkalinity decreaser, packed in a 10 lb bucket and sold in cases of four. It is the dry alternative to liquid muriatic acid for water that has drifted high.

When to use it

Apply pH Down when the pool reads above 7.6. The target is a pH between 7.4 and 7.6, which is the range where chlorine works efficiently, where scale stays out of the plumbing and off the heater, and where the water is comfortable to swim in. High pH quietly wastes sanitizer, so a pool that never seems to hold chlorine is often a pH problem rather than a chlorine problem.

Handling and dosing

The granules dissolve quickly and the dosing chart is printed on the bucket, so match the amount to your pool volume and current reading rather than eyeballing it. Retest after the water has circulated. Dry granules are easier to store and safer to carry than liquid acid, with none of the fumes.
