The Polaris G57 is the collar for the back-up valve on the Vac-Sweep 180, 280 and 380 pressure side cleaners, and on the 280 TankTrax. It is the genuine Polaris part, molded in plastic.
What the back-up valve does
Every pressure side Polaris relies on it. On a timed cycle the valve diverts water from the cleaner to the back-up jet, which pushes the unit backwards and out of whatever corner, step or ladder it has walked itself into. Without that reversal a cleaner can spend an entire cycle pinned in one place.
The collar in particular
The collar clamps the valve together on the feed hose. It is a small part, and when it cracks the valve loses its seal, weakens, or comes apart altogether. The symptom the owner sees is a cleaner that no longer backs itself out.
While you are there
If the collar has failed, inspect the valve body and the O-ring set at the same time. Polaris sells both separately, and a valve that has been leaking has usually taken its seals along with it.
