What the idler does
The 280 drives itself around the pool on its wheels, and the small idler rides along to keep the cleaner steady on its path. When it cracks, wears flat, or seizes on its axle, the cleaner starts dragging to one side, wanders off its pattern, and leaves whole sections of floor untouched.
While the wheel is off
Look at the hardware behind it. The wheel screw, the wheel washer and the ball bearings all wear on the same schedule as the wheel and are ordered separately. Replacing a wheel onto tired bearings usually means going back in a season later.
