Why unions get replaced

A salt cell has to come out periodically to be inspected and cleaned, and the unions are what make that possible without cutting into the plumbing. They are opened and closed more than any other joint on the pad, so the O-rings flatten, the nuts crack and the threads wear. A weeping union is usually the first sign.

Doing the job once

Because the set covers both ends with new seals, hardware and couplers, it puts the cell back on fresh joints rather than reusing a suspect one on the other side.
