The Century USQ1152 is an up rated, square flange pool pump motor rated at 1-1/2 HP on 230 or 115 volts. It is the 48Y frame format used by Sta-Rite Max-E-Glas, Dura-Glas I and II, and Max-E-Pro pumps.

Matching your old motor

Horsepower on its own does not identify a pool motor. Read the nameplate on the one you are removing and match the frame, the flange, the horsepower and the service factor together. This one is 48Y, square flange, 1-1/2 HP with a 1.1 service factor, 3450 rpm, single phase, 60 Hz. Current draw is 8.75 A at 230 V and 17.5 A at 115 V, so check the breaker and wiring for the voltage you intend to run.

Build

Ball bearings at both ends, capacitor start with across the line starting, an open drip proof enclosure and continuous duty rating, class B insulation and automatic thermal protection. The shaft is 303 stainless steel with a 1/2 inch thread and a 0.625 inch diameter, which matters on a pump that sits wet for years. Overall length is 13.82 inch and rotation is counterclockwise viewed from the pump end.

While the motor is off

A motor change is the natural time to replace the shaft seal and the pump gaskets. Fitting a new motor behind a tired seal usually means taking the pump apart again a few weeks later.
