Product details

The Polaris 6-503-00 is the blue pressure relief valve for the Polaris 65 and 165 pool cleaners. It is the genuine Polaris OEM part.

What it controls

These cleaners are driven by water pressure, and they only work properly inside a narrow pressure band. The relief valve bleeds off whatever is above that band. With a healthy valve the cleaner tracks the floor at a steady pace. With a valve that no longer opens, the cleaner is pushed too hard and starts racing, bouncing or lifting off the floor.

Fitting and identification

The valve is fitted on the cleaner itself, so changing it is a short job with the unit out of the water. It is the blue valve, which is what separates it from the other relief valves Polaris uses. It also appears in the parts group covering the 160 and the Turbo Turtle, so owners of those models should check the number against their own parts list first.

Which cleaners does this fit?

What does the pressure relief valve do?
It releases pressure above what the cleaner needs. That keeps the unit moving at the right speed rather than being driven too hard by the booster or pump.
My cleaner races around and jumps. Is this the part?
Very often, yes. A relief valve that has stopped bleeding pressure lets too much flow reach the cleaner, which shows up as a machine that runs too fast and will not settle.
