What it covers
The water valve is the piece of an in-floor system that routes flow to each zone in turn, and its lid is the access point. That lid comes off every time the valve is serviced, which means it takes the wear: the rim gets nicked, the plastic cracks, or the o-ring flattens and the valve starts seeping.
Why the o-ring matters
Because the lid and o-ring are supplied together, both halves of the seal are new at the same time. Fitting a new lid onto an old, hardened o-ring, or a new o-ring under a cracked lid, tends to send you back to the same valve a season later.
