What high altitude means here

Air thins as elevation rises, so a burner set up for sea level runs short of oxygen in the mountains and loses efficiency and output. This version is engineered for that thinner air, keeping combustion clean and heating output consistent at 2000 to 6000 ft.

Build

399k BTU capacity, electronic ignition, polymer headers on the water side and a copper heat exchanger, with 120/240V power. It is an atmospheric model, in the same family as the R206A.

What elevation is this heater for?
2000 to 6000 ft. The title, model name and product summary all describe it as the high altitude build. Note that one line in the manufacturer copy for this part instead reads 0-2000 ft elevation, which contradicts the rest, so confirm the elevation stamped on the rating plate against your site before installing.
What do I order for a pool near sea level?
Raypak part 009223 is the high altitude version. The standard P-R406A-EN-C for 0 to 2000 ft elevations is part number 009219.
Why does altitude matter for a gas heater?
Air is thinner at elevation, so there is less oxygen per unit of volume. The high altitude build compensates for that so combustion stays efficient and the heater holds its output.
