What it is
The bezel is the trim around the heater control, and the decal on it is what labels the switch positions. Neither is an electrical part, but together they are how anybody standing at the heater knows what the control is set to.
Why it gets replaced
Heaters live outdoors. Sunlight, weather and airborne pool chemistry fade the printing and make the plastic brittle, until the decal is peeling and the positions cannot be read. Fitting a new bezel with a fresh decal makes the panel legible again and tidies up an otherwise sound heater.
