The Solaxx GNR00014 is the genuine replacement quartz sleeve for the Nuvo 1500 25 watt ultraviolet system. It is the sleeve only, so the lamp is ordered separately.
What the sleeve does
The ultraviolet lamp cannot sit in the water, so it lives inside a quartz tube. Quartz is used because it passes ultraviolet light where ordinary glass absorbs it. Everything the system does to the water happens through this sleeve.
Why they get replaced
Scale, oils and film build up on the outside of the quartz. In the early stages a careful clean brings it back. Past that the surface stays hazy and the ultraviolet output is absorbed before it reaches the flow, so the system draws power and sanitizes nothing. A cracked sleeve is an immediate replacement, since it lets water reach the lamp.
Fitting it
Handle the quartz with clean hands or through a cloth. Skin oils bake onto the surface under the lamp and shade it from day one. Support the sleeve at both ends as it goes in, seat the o-rings without forcing anything, and give the outside a wipe before the lamp goes back.
