The Solaxx NUVO UV1500A is an ultraviolet water sterilizer for above ground pools. It is rated for 15,000 gallons at a flow rate of 35 gpm, runs on 110 volts, and carries a 50 psi pressure rating. The Nuvo system and its plumbing connectors are included.
How ultraviolet treatment works
Water is routed through a chamber where it passes a UV lamp. Ultraviolet light at the right wavelength disrupts the DNA of organisms carried in the water, which is the same principle used to sterilize equipment in a clinical setting. It is effective on organisms that resist chemical disinfection, including cryptosporidium and giardia cysts, which is the reason UV is added to pools that already run a sanitizer.
Where it fits in the system
The chamber is plumbed into the return line and treats water only as it passes through, so it does not put a residual into the pool. It is a supplement to salt or standard chlorine, not a replacement for either. Keeping the pump running long enough to turn the water over is what determines how much of the pool the chamber actually sees.
