Product details

The Solaxx CLG10A-010 is the replacement cell for the Saltron Retro chlorine generator. It is the genuine Solaxx part.

What the cell does

A salt system does not add chlorine to the pool, it makes it. Pool water carrying dissolved salt passes through the cell, current runs across the plates inside, and the process converts the salt into chlorine on the spot. The control unit tells it when and how hard to run, but the cell is where the chemistry actually happens.

Why it is a consumable

The coating on the cell plates is used up by that reaction. Output tapers off over years of service, and eventually the system runs at full output and still cannot hold a chlorine residual. At that point the cell has reached the end of its life, not the system. The control unit and power supply stay where they are and only the cell is replaced.

Getting the most from it

Scale is what kills cells early. Hard water deposits calcium on the plates, which insulates them and cuts output long before the coating is actually spent. Keeping calcium hardness under control, holding salt in the recommended range, and inspecting the cell periodically will get you the service life the cell was built for.

Which system does this fit?
The Solaxx Saltron Retro chlorine generator.
Why do salt cells need replacing at all?
The plates inside a cell carry the current that turns salt into chlorine, and the coating on those plates is consumed as it works. Output falls off gradually until the cell can no longer keep up, regardless of how well it has been maintained.
Do I need to replace the whole unit?
No. The cell is the consumable. The control unit and power supply stay in place, and only the cell is swapped.
How do I get the most life out of it?
Keep salt and stabilizer in range, keep calcium hardness in check, and inspect the cell for scale. Scale on the plates is the single biggest cause of a cell dying early, and hard water pools need to be checked more often.
