What it does
A temperature sensor has to sit in moving water to read the pool accurately, which means it needs a port in the pipe rather than a mount on the outside of it. The tapped tee is that port. It plumbs into the line and carries a threaded tap the sensor screws into, so the probe tip ends up in the flow.
Fitting it
Use a thread sealant suited to the fitting and stop at hand tight plus a light turn. Plastic threads strip and split under a wrench, and a cracked tee means cutting the line open again to replace it. This listing is the tee only, so order the sensor separately if that is what failed.
