The Intermatic T101P201 is a 24 hour mechanical time switch in a Type 3R plastic enclosure, wired for pool heater protection. The clock runs on 120 volts at 60 Hz and the switch is SPST.
What heater protection means
A gas fired heater keeps heat in the exchanger after the burner stops. If the filter pump shuts down at the same moment, that heat has nowhere to go. The result is the pounding and knocking owners hear at the pad, plus accelerated scale and lime deposits inside the heater. This time switch is built to turn the heater off approximately 20 minutes ahead of the pump, so the pump goes on moving water and carries the residual heat away. It is a small piece of sequencing that adds years to a heater.
Duty and ratings
These are heavy duty mechanical time switches with high motor load ratings, used on commercial, industrial and residential jobs. The dial supports up to 12 ON and OFF operations a day with a minimum of one hour between them.
