Quick overview
- Anti-vortex design The profile is shaped to break up the swirl that forms over an open main drain.
- Eight inch The 8 inch size, so it has to match the sump it is going onto.
- White The standard white finish.
- Waterway part number Ordered as 645-2150 V rather than by appearance.
- Never run a drain uncovered A missing or broken main drain cover is the single most dangerous fault on a pool, so a cracked cover is a close the pool job, not a next season job.
- Confirm approval for your installation Suction outlet covers are governed by rating, sump type and flow rate, so verify this cover suits your sump and flow before installing it.

Product details
The Waterway Plastics 645-2150 V is an 8 inch anti-vortex main drain cover in white. It is the grate that mounts over the main drain sump in the pool floor.
Anti-vortex
Water drawn toward a suction outlet will start to rotate above it. The anti-vortex profile is shaped to break that swirl up rather than let it organise, which is part of how the cover handles the flow passing through the drain.
Fit is a safety matter, not a preference
A main drain cover is a suction outlet cover, and the correct one depends on the sump it mounts to and the flow rate the system pulls through it. Before ordering or installing, confirm that this cover suits your sump and your flow. If there is any doubt, have it checked by a pool professional.
Do not defer this repair
A cover that is cracked, loose or missing is an entrapment hazard, and it is the one fault on a pool that should stop swimming immediately rather than waiting for the next service visit.

Questions and answers
What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.
What does anti-vortex mean?
The cover profile is shaped to disrupt the rotating swirl that can form in the water above a suction outlet. Breaking that vortex up is part of how the cover manages flow at the drain.
What size is it?
8 inch, in white. It is Waterway Plastics part 645-2150 V.
Can I fit any 8 inch cover to my drain?
Not safely. Suction outlet covers are matched to the sump they mount on and to the flow rate through them. Confirm this cover is right for your sump and your system flow before installing it, and involve a professional if you are not certain.
My cover is cracked. Can the pool stay open?
No. A broken, loose or missing main drain cover is an entrapment hazard. The pool should stay closed until a correct cover is properly fitted.
