The Hayward WGX1048EGR is an 8 inch anti-entrapment VGB drain cover in gray. It is the genuine Hayward replacement.

Why the cover matters

The cover over a main drain is what spreads the pump suction across a wide area instead of concentrating it at one opening. That is the entire point of an anti-entrapment cover, and it is why a cracked, loose or missing cover is not a cosmetic problem. If a cover is damaged, keep people out of the pool until it has been replaced.

Ordering the right one

Check the size against the cover you are taking out, since drain covers are made in several diameters and the fixing pattern goes with the size. This one is the 8 inch gray version. Hayward lists the same cover in white and in black under different part numbers if you want the drain to blend with the pool finish.

Replacement, not repair

Drain covers are consumable. They are rated for a service life and get brittle in sunlight and pool chemistry, so replacing one on schedule is normal maintenance rather than a sign something went wrong.
