Product details

The Century 17590450 is a motor coverplate supplied with its toggle switch already fitted. It is the 2-speed switch cover plate used on the A.O. Smith and Century motor line, and it is also listed under the substitute part numbers 175904-50 and 5271-75.

What it is

The plate closes off the motor end and carries the toggle used to select between the two speeds. Because the switch is part of the plate, a worn or seized toggle is replaced by changing the assembly rather than by trying to salvage the switch alone.

Why it fails first

The switch is the part of a motor a person actually touches, and it lives outdoors. Toggles wear, stick and eventually stop making contact on one speed, and plates corrode around the switch. None of that means the motor is finished, which is why this assembly is a common order on an otherwise healthy pump.
