Propane only

This is the propane version. Pilot burners are drilled for a specific gas, and a propane pilot on a natural gas heater, or the reverse, will not run correctly. Confirm the gas the heater is set up for before you order.

Why the pilot does more than light the burner

A millivolt heater runs without external electrical power. The pilot flame plays on a thermopile, and the small voltage that generates is what holds the gas valve open. That means a pilot burner which is partly blocked, corroded or misaligned does not just make lighting difficult, it starves the control system of the voltage it needs to work at all.

Diagnosing the fault

A heater that will not stay lit points at the pilot burner, the thermopile or the gas valve, and the symptoms overlap. The ESG propane gas valve is a separate part. Inspect the assembly before ordering so you replace the piece that is actually at fault.

Will this work on a natural gas heater?
No. It is the propane pilot burner. A natural gas heater needs the natural gas version, and swapping one for the other is not safe.
Which heaters does it fit?

Why does a pilot burner matter so much on a millivolt heater?
A millivolt system has no external power. The pilot flame heats a thermopile that generates the small voltage running the gas valve, so a weak pilot means the valve never gets what it needs to open.
My heater will not stay lit. Is this the part?
It is a common cause, along with the gas valve and the thermopile. Have the pilot assembly inspected before ordering, since all three present much the same way.
