This is the propane version. Pilot burners are drilled for a specific gas, and a propane pilot on a natural gas heater, or the reverse, will not run correctly. Confirm the gas the heater is set up for before you order.
Why the pilot does more than light the burner
A millivolt heater runs without external electrical power. The pilot flame plays on a thermopile, and the small voltage that generates is what holds the gas valve open. That means a pilot burner which is partly blocked, corroded or misaligned does not just make lighting difficult, it starves the control system of the voltage it needs to work at all.
Diagnosing the fault
A heater that will not stay lit points at the pilot burner, the thermopile or the gas valve, and the symptoms overlap. The ESG propane gas valve is a separate part. Inspect the assembly before ordering so you replace the piece that is actually at fault.
