Product details
R0334800 is the Teledyne Laars flame sense rod for Jandy Laars LX and LT pool heaters. It is the genuine factory part.
How flame sensing works
Once the burner lights, the ignition control needs proof that there is actually a flame before it will keep the gas valve open. The sense rod supplies that proof: it sits in the flame and passes a very small rectified current back to the control. If the control cannot read that current, it shuts the gas within seconds, no matter how well the heater lit.
The symptom to look for
A heater that ignites cleanly and then drops out a few seconds later is almost always a sensing problem rather than an ignition problem. Carbon, oxide, a bent rod or a cracked ceramic insulator all cut the current the control is looking for. Cleaning helps a lightly coated rod; a pitted or cracked one gets replaced.
