The Intermatic PF1102M is a freeze protection thermostat for 240V applications, supplied as the mechanism. It brings the pump and heater on when outdoor temperature falls below the setpoint you choose.
Why it matters
A hard freeze cracks pipes, pump housings, filter tanks and heater exchangers, and the repair bill dwarfs the cost of the control. Water that keeps moving is far more resistant to freezing than water sitting still, so a freeze thermostat simply runs the equipment through the cold hours and shuts it down again when the temperature comes back up. The setpoint is user adjustable, so you pick the trigger temperature for your climate.
