Product details

The Intermatic PF1102M is a freeze protection thermostat for 240V applications, supplied as the mechanism. It brings the pump and heater on when outdoor temperature falls below the setpoint you choose.

Why it matters

A hard freeze cracks pipes, pump housings, filter tanks and heater exchangers, and the repair bill dwarfs the cost of the control. Water that keeps moving is far more resistant to freezing than water sitting still, so a freeze thermostat simply runs the equipment through the cold hours and shuts it down again when the temperature comes back up. The setpoint is user adjustable, so you pick the trigger temperature for your climate.

Which version this is

Intermatic builds this line several ways. This part number is the thermostat mechanism only, for 240 volt equipment. There is a separate Intermatic part number for the same thermostat supplied in a Type 3R metal enclosure, and other models in the line add a mechanical timer. Check which configuration your installation needs before ordering.

Does this include an enclosure?
This is the mechanism version. Intermatic lists a separate part number for the freeze protection thermostat supplied in a Type 3R metal enclosure, so order that one if you need the housing.
Does it include a timer?
No. This is the thermostat only. Intermatic makes freeze protection models both with and without a mechanical timer mechanism.
What voltage does it work with?
240V applications. Intermatic lists other part numbers for 120V and dual voltage installations.
How does freeze protection actually work?
The thermostat watches outdoor air temperature. When it drops below the setpoint you have dialed in, it closes and runs the pump and heater. Moving water is far harder to freeze than still water, which is what saves the plumbing and the equipment.
