Product details

The Waterway 805-0232 is the union o-ring for the 2-1/2 inch tail piece. It is the seal between the tail piece and its mating union half.

Where it goes

Unions let a pump, filter or valve be broken loose without cutting pipe, and the o-ring is what makes that joint watertight. It is listed among Waterway Crystal Water cartridge filter parts and the push pull DE valve parts, and it is the 2.5 inch size specifically.

Diagnosing a leak

A union that drips while the pump runs, or that draws air on the suction side, is almost always down to this seal. Rubber flattens, dries and picks up nicks from grit, and once it takes a set it will not seal again no matter how hard the collar is tightened. Overtightening a union to chase a leak usually cracks the collar, so change the o-ring instead. A light film of silicone lubricant rated for pool use helps it seat and makes the next disassembly easier.

What size union does this fit?
The 2.5 inch tail piece. A 2 inch union takes a different o-ring, so measure before ordering.
My union drips. Is this the fix?
Usually. A union that weeps when the pump runs is nearly always a flattened, nicked or dried out o-ring, and this is the seal for the 2.5 inch tail piece.
Should I use lubricant on it?
A thin film of a pool rated silicone lubricant helps the o-ring seat and makes the next service easier. Do not use petroleum grease, which attacks the rubber.
How often should it be replaced?
Any time the union is opened for service, and immediately if it is flat, cracked or leaking.
