What it seals
Every pressure filter needs a way to purge trapped air after the lid comes off, and that bleeder screw seals against this o-ring. It is a tiny part carrying the full working pressure of the filter at the highest point of the tank.
The symptom
A steady drip or a fine spray from the top of the filter after you close the bleeder. People chase the lid gasket and the clamp for weeks before looking at the bleeder o-ring, which is almost always the culprit when the leak is at the bleeder itself.
