What it does
The tank o-ring sits between the upper and lower halves of the filter body and is what the band clamp squeezes to make the tank watertight. It is the only thing holding back full system pressure at that joint, so a flat, nicked or hardened ring shows up quickly as a drip or a spray around the seam.
When to change it
Any time the tank is opened for a grid or cartridge service, put a new o-ring in on reassembly. A ring that has been compressed for a season has taken the shape of the groove and will not seal the same way twice. Measure your tank first, because this one is the 18 inch size.
