Product details

The Pentair 170017 is the tank bottom assembly for the FNS Plus 48 square foot DE filter, model FNSP48. It is the genuine Pentair part.

What the tank bottom is

An FNS Plus filter is a two piece pressure vessel clamped together at the belly band. The bottom half carries the internals and takes the working pressure of the system. When it cracks, usually from freeze damage or age, the filter cannot hold pressure and the filter is out of service until the half is replaced.

Size specific

The FNS Plus family runs in several square footages and the tank halves are not shared between them. This is the 48. Read the model off the label on the filter and confirm FNSP48 before ordering.

While it is apart

Replacing a tank half means stripping the filter, which is the moment to look at the grids, the manifold and the seals. Those are separate Pentair numbers and it is far less work to do them now than to open the filter twice.

Will it fit the 36 or the 60?
No. The tank halves are sized to the filter, so a 48 bottom only goes on a 48. Check the model on the label before you order.
Is it a genuine Pentair part?

Can a cracked tank bottom be repaired?
Not reliably. The tank is a pressure vessel, and a patch that holds when it is dry will let go under system pressure. A cracked half is replaced.
