The Raypak 207A in this configuration is a 200,000 BTU low NOx natural gas pool heater, ASME rated, with digital IID control, bronze headers and a cupro-nickel heat exchanger. It is model B-R207A-EN-X, Raypak part 017709.

What the ASME rating is for

ASME certification is a construction and inspection standard for the pressure vessel inside the heater. Commercial, municipal and institutional pools are frequently required to run an ASME rated heater, and no amount of residential equipment will pass that inspection. If the specification calls for ASME, it is not a preference.

Cupro-nickel and bronze

The exchanger and headers are where a pool heater dies. Copper and cast iron do fine on well balanced residential water, but low pH, high sanitizer and heavy bather load eat them. Cupro-nickel tubes with bronze headers are the combination specified when the water or the duty is harder than average, which is the usual reason to buy this build rather than the standard one.

Installation

This is a natural gas appliance. Gas supply sizing, venting and the electrical connection are a job for a licensed installer, and the local code decides what is acceptable.

What is ASME on a pool heater?

It means the heater is built and certified to the ASME pressure vessel code. Commercial and institutional pools are commonly required to use an ASME rated heater, and a residential unit will not satisfy that inspection.

Why cupro-nickel instead of copper?

Cupro-nickel resists corrosion from low pH, high sanitizer and heavy bather load far better than plain copper. It is the exchanger to specify for commercial duty or water that runs aggressive.

Is this natural gas or propane?
