Product details

The Polaris A40, also written A-40, is the turbine shaft shield for the Polaris 280 and Polaris 180 pressure side pool cleaners. It is the genuine Polaris OEM part.

What it protects

The turbine is the heart of a pressure side cleaner: water driven through it is what turns the wheels and works the sweep. The shaft it spins on lives in the dirtiest water in the pool, full of sand and grit on its way to the bag. The shield is what stands between that debris and the shaft.

Why it is worth replacing

On its own the shield is a minor part. What it prevents is not. Once grit starts working into the shaft area it grinds at the shaft and bearings every hour the cleaner runs, and the repair stops being a small plastic piece and becomes a turbine rebuild. It appears in the parts diagrams for the Polaris 180 and for the 280 and TR28P, so it is worth checking whenever the cleaner is open for other work.
