The Polaris R0537800 is the chain guard for the 3900 Sport pool cleaner. It is the genuine Polaris part, the same cover fitted at the factory.
What it does
The guard shields the drive chain inside the cleaner body. Pools full of leaf stems, pine needles and long hair will feed all of it into an open chain run, and once the drive is fouled the cleaner slows, tracks badly or stops moving altogether. The guard is the piece standing between that debris and the running gear.
When to replace it
If the guard is cracked, warped or missing after a rebuild, put a new one on. It is one of the cheapest parts on the cleaner and it protects some of the more expensive ones. The chain, belts and wheels are all separate parts.
