Product details

The Polaris 48-045 is a stainless steel pan head screw, 10-32 thread by 7/8 in long, supplied with a star washer. It is the genuine Polaris part.

Why the material matters

This screw spends its working life submerged. A plated hardware store screw will corrode, and the rust binds it into the plastic boss so hard that the next person to service the cleaner ends up drilling it out. Stainless is what the cleaner left the factory with, and it is what should go back in.

Where it is used

The source lists this screw for the Polaris 3900 Sport, and the parts diagrams also carry it on the 480 Pro, BlackMax and TankTrax. If one screw has failed on a cleaner of that age, the rest are the same vintage, so it is worth inspecting them while the cleaner is apart.

What size screw is this?

Can I use an ordinary screw from the hardware store?
You can physically, but a plated screw rusts in pool water and the corrosion can seize or split the plastic boss it threads into. Stainless is what the cleaner was built with.
Is the star washer separate?
No. The star washer is included with the screw. It is what stops the screw working loose as the cleaner vibrates.
