The AquaStar SKWD102 is the weir plate assembly for standard and vinyl or fiberglass skimmers, molded in black and supplied with two weir clip locks.
What the weir does
The weir is the hinged flap sitting in the skimmer throat. Water has to pass over it to get into the skimmer, which speeds up the top layer of the pool surface and is what actually drags floating debris toward the skimmer. When the pump shuts off, the weir drops and holds what has been collected inside the basket instead of letting it float back out.
Why they get replaced
Weirs go brittle in the sun, and the clip locks that hold them in place snap long before the plate itself wears out. A weir that has gone missing or no longer swings freely turns the skimmer into a plain hole in the wall, and skimming gets noticeably worse. This assembly ships with both clip locks so the whole hinge is renewed at once.
