The Pentair R38013B is the circular floating weir for Admiral S10 model in-ground skimmers. It is a new genuine Pentair part from the Rainbow and American Products range.
What the weir is for
A skimmer with no working weir pulls water from the whole throat at once, slowly. With the weir in place, the opening is throttled down to a narrow slot at the surface, so the pump draws a fast thin sheet off the very top of the pool. That is the layer carrying floating leaves, pollen, insects and surface oils, and it is the whole reason a skimmer works better than a plain suction port.
The second job
The weir also acts as a one way door. When the pump shuts off, it swings closed and keeps what you collected inside the basket instead of letting it float back out into the pool.
Signs it is time
Weirs are consumable. Sun and sanitizer make them brittle, and they crack, waterlog or stop pivoting freely. If yours sticks, sinks, or lets debris escape at shutdown, replace it.
