What it replaces
The handle is the part of a valve that takes all the force and all the weather. It is what cracks at the hub, strips out on the stem or snaps off entirely, usually while the valve body and the diverter inside it are still perfectly good. Fitting a new handle puts a working valve back in service for a fraction of the cost of replacing it.
