Product details

The Skimlite SP400 is the Spartan wide mouth leaf rake, a hand net for pulling leaves and floating debris out of a pool.

Why the wide mouth

The wider frame takes in more water on each pass. After a windy night or a heavy leaf drop that difference is the gap between a five minute job and a twenty minute one.

Where it fits in the routine

Skimming by hand is what keeps the rest of the system working. A pool left to load up chokes the skimmer basket, packs a cleaner and makes the pump work against a restriction. Taking the bulk out first leaves the filter and the cleaner handling what they are actually good at.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

What does wide mouth mean?
The frame opening is wider than a standard rake, so each pass sweeps a larger area of water and it takes fewer strokes to clear a leaf drop.
What is the part number?
Skimlite SP400.
What is it for?
Scooping leaves and floating debris out of the pool by hand. It is a leaf removal tool, not a fine silt or algae tool.
Why bother if I have a cleaner?
Because a heavy leaf load blocks the skimmer, packs the cleaner and starves the pump. Taking the bulk out with a rake first lets the rest of the equipment do the job it is good at.
