The Pentair R121196 is the heavy duty skimmer net, model #126. It is the version built for daily use rather than the occasional pass, and the net itself can be replaced when it finally gives out.
Why skim first
Leaves, bugs and blossom float for a while before they waterlog and sink. Taken off the surface they go straight in the bin. Left alone they drop to the floor, where they stain plaster and have to be vacuumed, or they wash into the skimmer and fill the baskets. A minute with a net saves both jobs.
The net is the wear part
Mesh tears on rough edges and thins out with sun exposure long before the frame gives up. On this net the bag is easily replaceable, so the frame can stay in service. Poles are sold separately.
