Product details

The Hayward AquaTrol is a salt water chlorine generator built for above ground pools, in the straight blade return jet version. It handles the average residential above ground pool up to 18,000 gallons, or 67,500 liters.

How salt chlorination works

The pool carries a low concentration of salt, low enough that swimmers do not normally taste it. As water passes through the cell, the system converts that salt into free chlorine, which kills bacteria and algae exactly as added chlorine does. After it has done its work the chlorine reverts to salt, and the cycle repeats. Salt is only topped up when water is lost to backwashing, draining or splash out, not to evaporation.

Timer and power

The AquaTrol includes a filter pump timer, so the pump and the chlorine generation run together for the hours the pool actually needs. Electrical connections are made at 120V, 15A.

Plumbing and options

The cell connects with 1-1/2 in. or 1-1/4 in. flexible hose, or to 2 in. rigid PVC pipe when the HP option is ordered, which covers most above ground installations. Chlorine demand varies with swimmer load, rainfall, water temperature and how clean the pool is kept, so expect to adjust the output through the season.
